Kana Reading Drill

Learn to read Japanese script.

Hiragana and katakana are the two phonetic alphabets used in every Japanese workplace. This drill helps you recognize all 92 characters at a glance — from safety signs to payslips.

Why kana matters for SSW

SSW skill assessments include basic Japanese reading. Being able to read kana lets you understand workplace signs, safety labels, and shift schedules from day one.

Hiragana first

Start with hiragana — it covers all native Japanese sounds and appears throughout everyday Japanese. Katakana is mainly used for foreign loan words (like food product names and machine parts).

How the drill works

Choose a script and a character group, then identify each character from 4 options. A character is “mastered” after 3 correct answers. Progress saves automatically.
